The Patrick F. Monaghan Golf Award And The Patrick F. Monaghan Scholarship
Eligibility Requirements
Each year the St. Joseph’s Prep Golf Coach and the Patrick F. Monaghan Foundation Officers will select from among the members of the team a current Freshmen, Sophomore, or Junior who exemplifies Patrick’s qualities. These requirements would guide the selection of the Patrick F. Monaghan Golf Award:
Recipient must demonstrate character, leadership, and dedication to the golf team
Recipient is a team-oriented individual with enthusiastic spirit for his school and team
Recipient must have civic/community involvement
Recipient must demonstrate academic achievement
There are two possible scenarios for the allocation of funds:
The First Scenario would occur if the family of the golfer chosen for the award were not in any considerable financial need. In this situation, 20% of the money would be given to the recipient of the Patrick F. Monaghan Golf Award, as either credit toward the next years tuition or as cash. The remaining 80% would be given to another student as the Patrick F. Monaghan Scholarship to be used as a credit toward his current or following year’s tuition.
The Second Scenario would occur if the family of the golfer chosen for the award were in considerable financial need. In this case, the award recipient would be given 100% of the funds as credit toward his tuition of the current or following year.
The designation of the money given to the student in need as the Patrick F. Monaghan Scholarship, while still designating the actual honor and smaller amount of money given to the student on the golf team as the Patrick F. Monaghan Award. In some years the scholarship and the award will be given to two different students, while in other years, the same student would receive both the scholarship and the award, according to the situation.
